Progressives, those on the left of the Democratic party, are equating Israel striking at Hamas with that terrorist organization’s intentionally brutal surprise attack on October 7 when Israeli civilians—men, women, children and infants—were tortured and slaughter; when women were gang raped.
I have heard elected Progressives say things like what Hamas did was terrible but look at what Israel is doing in Gaza. They then go on to decry what the Israeli Defense Force is doing in its efforts to destroy Hamas.
The deaths of Palestinian civilians are horrible. But before condemning Israel for them, you should accept the fact Hamas shoulders a large part of the responsibility. Hamas has embedded its military operation among civilians. Hamas has used hospitals, schools and mosques—both on the surface and in tunnels underneath—for military purposes.
How, then, is Israel supposed to attack Hamas without endangering civilians?
The only way that happens is if you believe Israel should just throw up its hands and say, oh, well, we’ll just walk away and just accept what happened. And the only way you can believe that is if you are part of the “from the river to the sea” crowd who want the destruction of Israel.
Consider this: How would the United States react if a Mexican terrorist group launched a surprise attack to reclaim the land the U.S. took in the 1840s war with Mexico when it absorbed what is now the American Southwest and California. In this hypothetical attack more than 40,000 American civilians—men, women and children—are slaughtered in their homes and the streets. Infants are murdered in their cribs. Parents are tortured and murdered in front of their children. Children are tortured and murdered in front of their parents. Women are gang raped by laughing groups of men. The terrorists then retreat into Mexican cities.
