While Florida is shipping undocumented migrants to New York and other points North, New York is returning the favor by shipping its riffraff to the Sunshine State.
First, our erstwhile president Donald Trump fled New York City for Florida. Remember him? He's the guy who still won't admit he lost the election and is facing multiple federal and state charges.
Now it's Fox commentator Sean Hannity who has decamped from there to what he calls the "Free State of Florida."
He took that term from Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis who is on a crusade to make Florida free from toleration, of accepting other people who might look and/or believe differently, of gender equality, of women having control of their bodies, of people, especially children, being able to read books that are not approved by the right-wingers, and of history. He and his minions want to revert to the mythology that passed for history 50 years ago. They want children to learn that slavery wasn't so bad, that a white, male-dominated society was the best one, and that democracy in this republic doesn't mean everyone gets a chance to vote.
That is the vision of Free Florida DeSantis is peddling and Hannity is embracing.
I tremble for Florida.
