Are you fascinated by what makes human being’s tick? I am. Hi, I’m W.R. Blocher, the author of one non-fiction work and four novels. All of them delve into the human condition.
I wrote the first book, a non-fiction work, with my wife, Amy. It recounts the history of ten Jewish children who managed to survive the Nazis’ attempt to murder them. Each boy or girl survived in a way different from the other nine. Only one was in Auschwitz. One was a slave laborer. One hid in plain sight. A three-year-old girl survived after her desperate mother threw her over the concentrative camp fence in a desperate bid to save her last child. Each story is different. Each story is compelling.
Then there is The Dead Side trilogy. The three books follow Sam and Sarah as they struggle to survive in a dystopian world that is bent on crushing them and killing all life. They flee America on a sailing ship they and their friends built, nearly dying at sea. They find refuge in England, where Sam, and then Sarah, join the fight against this murderous enemy. The trilogy explores the nature of what it means to be family and what is costs to be free and to survive.
Something About Kate explores how guilt and growing up in an abusive family can damage people, in this case Jake and Kate. Jake blames himself for the death of his girlfriend in a traffic accident caused by a drunk driver. Kate grew up with a father who was dismissive of girls, thinking they were only useful for have babies and taking care of their men. When they meet by chance, they begin to travel a road that ultimately leads them to self-discovery.
I am currently writing a fifth novel, Ooops, An Accidental Abduction about a PhD candidate who is mistaken for her roommate by two kidnappers. That should be out either later this year or early next year.
I am not a genre writer, as my different works demonstrate. Rather, I write about the human condition, exploring what family means, what humanity means, what freedom and self-determination mean.
Please, join me on this journey.
