What Does a Conspiracy Theorist Do?

The beauty of being a conspiracy believer is that reality can be ignored, thus providing no threat to your beliefs.
A problem can arise if a conspiracy theorist actually gets into a position of authority to prove the conspiracy existed. The trouble comes if there is no proof. Then fellow conspiracy theorists will turn on their former believer as part of the conspiracy.
Case in point: FBI Director Kash Patel, his No. 2 Dan Bongino, and Attorney General Pam Bondi. Bondi was Florida’s attorney general. Patel and Bongino’s qualifications were based on their support of and loyalty to Donald Trump,
Among other things the triumvirate pushed in one way or another was the conspiracy theory that accused teenage girl abuser Jeffrey Epstein was murdered in his cell in a Manhattan prison. Investigations found he committed suicide. But that was just part of the cover up and not to be believed.
Epstein was arrested in 2019 on charges related to the abuse of dozens of teenage girls by himself and others who were part of his group. When he was found dead in his cell, it was ruled a suicide.
Conspiracy theorists quickly came to the conclusion that he had been murdered by unknown clients of his sex trafficking ring who wanted to keep him from revealing their identities.
Evidence of murder?
None.
But who needs evidence when you have a good conspiracy theory.
Can’t be proven?
No problem. The proof is there. It’s just being covered up.
Bongino, who was a media personality, found himself on Fox News in May and had to deliver the news: Epstein had not been murdered.
“I’ve seen the whole file,” he said, while sitting next to Patel. “He killed himself.”
Back in 2023, Bongino had told the listeners of his podcast to keep the belief of Epstein’s murder alive.
The upshot was that Tucker Carlson said they were making a big mistake by not revealing the “truth” as known by conspiracy theorists. Alex Jones accused Patel of gaslighting.
Patel and Bongino promoted conspiracy theories and promised to reveal deep-state secrets and exact vengeance on their enemies. The vengeance bit they are working on.
The other not so much.
They and Bondi are working to prove the conspiracy theories right, but that’s hard to do when there is no proof available. And, with no evidence, they can’t charge people based on conspiracy theories that their fellow believers so firmly believe in.
So now they have a problem: With no proof available, they are becoming part of the coverup.
It must be hard when a conspiracy theorist becomes part of the conspiracy.
