Let me see if I understand this: Overthrowing the government is fine; protesting against mass roundups cannot be allowed.
That seems to be what President Donald Trump believes.
On the first day of his second presidency Trump pardoned the people who tried to stop the counting of electoral votes on January 6, 2020. He praised them as victims of political oppression. Of course, he had lost that election and claimed it was stolen. So I guess overthrowing our republic was just fine.
On the other hand, protesting against mass roundups of people in the country illegally threatens our country’s existence. So after protests in Los Angeles, he calls out the California National Guard and some Marines to defend our nation against protesters, the vast majority of whom were peaceful. There was some violence later in the evening, which Los Angeles Police and Sheriff’s Deputies handled.
But Trump announced that National Guard troops and Marines had to be called out to defend our nation.
This was despite the California governor, the Los Angeles mayor and various California police officials saying they weren’t needed and, in fact, could make the situation worse.
The governor had not asked for the troops or Marines. Trump invoked a little used federal law to call out the troops.
Apparently Trump knows best.
Why?
Because he needs to be in power to save our nation. As he told a group of Christians before the election: They should vote for him because then they would never have to vote again.
