Are You Worried?

I have seen comments by people who apparently support Co-President Elon Musk’s efforts to get federal employees to account for their work activities during the previous week. The comments go along the lines that if these federal workers are actually doing worthwhile jobs, or even if they are really working, what are they afraid of?

I wonder if those same people who support this inquisition are wondering the same thing about President Donald Trump’s firing of inspector generals, who go after waste and fraud in the government, in just about every department, and his desire to fire Hampton Dellinger, the head of the Office of Special Counsel, the agency responsible for protecting federal workers who blow the whistle on waste and fraud in the government?

What is Trump afraid of? Why is he getting rid of the very people whose job it is to do exactly what he says he wants done—eliminate waste and fraud? No justification has been given for their dismissals. None of them have been accused of not doing their jobs properly. So why get rid of them? What is Trump planning to do that he is afraid of independent watch dogs?

The same can be said of his firing of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. CQ Brown, a well-respected leader with deep experience, only to replace him with Lieutenant General Dan Caine, who has never held a major command. You know, the kind of command the JCS chairman is supposed to hold: such as being vice chairman of the JCS, the head of one of Army, Navy or Air Force, or having held a major combatant command.

Our nation’s defense is now in the hands of a Fox News commentator, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and a three-star general who has never led a major military command.

No reason was given for firing General Brown. So why get rid of him? What is the motive?

Trump also got rid of the top lawyers in all three military services. Why? What is he planning to do that he is concerned will be blocked by lawyers because the actions are illegal?

As a side note, Trump has also fired the chief of naval operations, the top officer in the Navy, and the Commandant of the Coast Guard. Both are well respected and experienced officers.

But, then, both are women.

There is a pattern here that should be of concern to all those folks who think federal workers need to justify their existence to a bunch of 20-something commuter engineers and who value our nation’s security.
